Northern Wine Trail

Cycle tour through the vineyards and orchards in the surroundings of Bolzano, along the trail of the Wine Road Association

The best way to reach the Northern Wine Trail from Caldaro and Termeno is at the Pillhof junction in Frangarto, along the road from Caldaro to Bolzano. Here there is also a car park. After the junction we cycle towards Riva di Sotto (Unterrain), passing the village up to the bend near the Thermo Solar company. Here we follow the narrow road on the left at the edge of the wood (Fuchsmöser Biotope) up to Andriano. Arrived in the village, we head towards Nalles (Nals).

From Nalles we continue to Vilpiano (Vilpian), which is the northernmost village of the Northern Wine Trail. We reach the village crossing a bridge on the Adige river. We cycle now towards Terlano (Terlan), which is surrounded by vineyards, leaving a wonderful landscape based on orchards. By following the old road between Merano and Bolzano, we cycle southward - surrounded by vineyards - from Settequerce (Siebeneich) up to San Maurizio. Arrived in Gries, we continue into the Val Sarentino valley for a short section, directly at the foot of the vineyards of San Giorgio. We can see the vineyards also on the other side of the valley, near Sant'Antonio.

The cycle track along the Talvera river takes us to the historical centre of Bolzano: we cross the bridge and cycle along the Via Sant'Osvaldo road up to Rencio. The Brennero street takes us up to Cardano (Kardaun), where we turn back following the cycle track along the Isarco river, towards Bolzano. From the Piazza Verdi square we cross the town centre and the Talvera river on the cycle bridge at the Museion. Following the cycle track towards Appiano, we reach Ponte Adige with its train station and head back to Frangarto and the Pillhof junction, our starting point.
