Three Castles Walk in Appiano

Caldaro's neighbouring municipality of Appiano (6 km away) is known as the European area featuring the most castles. More than 200 castles, manors and estates tell its rich history. We start this medium difficult hike in the hamlet of Missiano (Missian), a component locality of the municipality of Appiano (Eppan), more precisely at the first castle: Hotel Castel Corba.

The well-marked paths no. 12 and 14 lead us to the second castle, Castel d'Appiano with its frescoed chapel and castle tavern, and further on via a 60 metres long wooden staircase through the Alta Valle d'Appiano valley. The ruin of Castel Boymont with its tavern which invites to a rest represents the third castle along our way.

From Castel Boymont we turn back for some minutes, in order to reach Missiano again, our starting point. This walk through mixed forests is especially beautiful in spring and autumn. Surefootedness and walking shoes are necessary!
