Termeno village

In the centre of Termeno you can experience artistic and historical treasures, but that’s far from being all.

The landscape that is characterised by gentle hills and vineyards as well as cypresses, fig and lemon trees and olives stands in marked contrast to the Monte Roen (2,113 m) rising high above the village. In the north of the centre the Valle dell’Inferno river runs down from Monte Roen and empthies into the Adige river. In Termeno village, there are also some sights, such as Kastelaz or Rechtental Castle. This castle is particularly popular and absolutely deserves to be visited. Instead of a little farm, the baron Franz S. Von Unterrichter had this castle built in the mid 19th century. In this period of time he already beared the title of nobility “von Rechtenthal”. In 1998, after a restoration period, the Province of South Tyrol established a further education academy for Teachers in this castle. However, also numerous events take place inside these historical walls.

At the main square, in the historical centre, there is the S. Quirikus and Julitta parish church, boasting the highest brick-built steeple of Tyrol with a hight of 86 m. Also the Romanesque S. Giacomo church in Castelaz and the S. Valentino cemetery chapel deserve to be mentioned as sight. The local village museum, however, exhibits traditional masks and figurines of the “Egentmann parade”, such as the so-called “Schnappviecher” or “Burgeletreiber”. Still today this Carnival parade takes place every second year on Carnival Tuesday. As you notice, there is much to be discovered in Termeno village.
