Spring walk around Lake Caldaro

The lovely walk around the lake leads past vineyards, the biotope, the Nature Experience Trail and the St. Joseph Church.

At the southern side of the lake there are marsh districts and a protected reed area: the Lake Caldaro Biotope, the largest preserved wetland area between the Po Plain and the Alpine divide. Our walk follows mostly paved roads - as almost all of them are closed to traffic, they are ideal for walking. The Restaurant Geier, situated at the north of the main car park in San Giuseppe al Lago (St. Josef am See), is our starting point.

We walk clockwise in direction Campi al Lago (Klughammer), beneath the hill of the Castelchiaro Fortress. Shortly afterwards we turn right and walk in direction South Tyrolean Wine Road. Especially in autumn this section is really beautiful, with the vineyards and the quietness after the busy summer months at the lake.

At San Giuseppe al Lago we continue in northerly direction - a section follows the well-known wine.path - until we reach our starting point again. Take your time for some breaks, in order to fully enjoy the wonderful landscape!
