Every year since 1989, innumerable world-famous athletes from Italy and abroad has been meeting at Lake Caldaro to compete in a prestigious competition, classified as ETU-Prestige-Triathlon. Amidst apple orchards, vineyards and the lake, the Oltradige area offers a stunning backdrop for this international sports event as well as mild temperatures which in May can reach up to 23 degrees C (air) and 19 degrees C (water).
The race courses are of Olympic dimensions: 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running. The Lake Caldaro Triathlon (Kalterer See Triathlon, in German) is organised by the Caldaro Sport Association - Triathlon Section - and the Caldaro Tourist Information.
The start is in the early afternoon at the Seegarten bathing establishment, with a jump into the waters of Lake Caldaro. Afterwards the athletes have to overcome three laps by bicycle along the shores of the lake (3 x 13.35 km) and finally three running laps on the northern banks of Lake Caldaro (3 x 3.33 km). A Pasta Party, the award ceremony and the "Triathlon Night" in the finishing area in the evening conclude the event.
