SUP has been known and practised for centuries, especially in Hawaii. In the 21st century it has become an autonomous type of sport - using a blade paddle and a board - and is very popular due to the fact that is is independent from wind and waves.
In May 2014, stand-up paddling was introduced to South Tyrol, and already in 2016 the first SUP-Festival with international participation took place. Nowadays Lake Caldaro is a famous SUP spot and often you can watch the athletes keeping their balance perfectly on the board.
If you'd like to rent a board and a blade paddle hourly, you can do this at the windsurf rental of Gretl am See. There's also a direct access to the lake. Have fun!
