Standup paddleboarding (SUP) is a water sport with board and a paddle which is also practised at Lake Caldaro.
Standup paddleboarding, also known as SUP, is becoming more and more popular. It has been known and practised for centuries, especially in Hawaii. In the 21st century it has become an autonomous type of sport - using a blade paddle and a board - and is very popular due to the fact that is is independent from wind and waves.
In May 2014, standup paddleboarding was introduced to South Tyrol, and already in 2016 the first SUP-Festival with international participation took place. Nowadays Lake Caldaro is a famous SUP spot and often you can watch the athletes keeping their balance perfectly on the board.
If you’d like to rent a board and a blade paddle hourly, you can do this at the windsurf rental of Gretl am See. There’s also a direct access to the lake. Have fun!
