Climbing and mountaineering

Via the Passo della Mendola mountain pass you can reach the Rif. Oltradige al Roen mountain hut at 1,775 m a.s.l., where the fixed-rope route to the 2,116 m high Mt. Roen is located. Slightly further away, in Magrè on the Wine Road, the Ferrata di Favogna fixed-rope route starts, whereas in the neighbouring village of Appiano there is a climbing crag in the Monticolo Forest, called 'Col dell'Uomo', which offers routes in various levels of difficulty.

In the Castelvecchio Forest, however, the Caldaro Adventure Park was realised, a high rope course with 24 different courses and 36 Flying Fox facilities. An absolute highlight for locals and guests! Also indoor climbing is possible: three climbing gyms between Bolzano and Termeno are waiting for climbers or for those who want to try this sport for the very first time.

In addition, the new urban bouldering hall Salewa Cube Climbing Hall Bolzano was opened in October 2025 in the new WaltherPark area near the station in Bolzano. This unique venue will feature a 1,200 sqm space, state-of-the-art training facilities, a chill-out area, and the only Kilter Board in South Tyrol: a standardised, app-controlled climbing wall with illuminated holds.
