Thanks to the mild climate and the “Ora” breeze in the afternoons, Lake Caldaro offers perfect conditions for windsurfing.
Already in March, with stable high pressure conditions, the popular “Ora” from Lake Garda breezes at Lake Caldaro. As it takes some time to come through the Valle dell’Adige valley, it starts here at around 2 pm, while it achieves full speed of 4 to 6 Beaufort later on in the afternoon. For this reason, already in spring there are many windsurfers on the waters of Lake Caldaro.
The best wind conditions prevail in spring, with a few really good “Ora” days. With fine weather the lake achieves an average water temperature of 13 degrees C already in April, thanks to its remote depth. In May the water thermometer climbs up to an average temperature of 19 degrees C, in high summer even up to 28 degrees C. Also air temperature in the area of the lake is some 10 degrees C higher than in the surrounding mountain regions.
Seldom there is also a northern wind, which can be rather severe, achieving a speed of up to 7 Beaufort. In summer months the wind slightly decreases, the weather becomes muggy, the temperatures rise and there is hardly any wind. Also in autumn long calm periods bother the lake and above all windsurfers. Well, the next spring is coming soon!
