Tips for windsurfing

Windsurfing is a way of life - and Lake Caldaro is the perfect place for beginners and professionals for this water sport

* Wind:
Regarding wind conditions for windsurfing, spring is the best season. Although the windy days are not very many, the souther "Ora" blows constantly and reaches wind forces up to 6 Beaufort.

* Lake access:
At all four bathing establishments (swimming pool LIDO, Seegarten, Gretl am See, Campi al Lago) offer basically the possibility to set up the surf equipment and to start. In spring during the week there are not many people on the water and the conditions are really perfect, while on the weekends this spot is really popular. With the beginning of the bathing season in May, the lake is rather crowded and there is little space to rig up and down.

* Water temperature:
The warmest bathing lake in the Alps is already pleasantly warm in springtime, with water temperatures rising up to 17-19 degrees C. In summer they can reach up to 28 degrees C.

* Clothing:
Spring presents itself with pleasant temperatures in the Oltradige area, but you need to wear a wet suit. In summer, however, shorts.

* Basic rules:
Priority rules (leeward prior to windward etc.) must always be respected. The correct behaviour in an emergency should also be learned, such as how to reduce the water resistance when paddling or how to give an emergency signal, even if the lake measures only 1.8 km at the longest point.
