Already since 2006, the warmest bathing lake of the Alps has been hosting a true classic for amateur athletes and running friends: the Lake Caldaro Half Marathon. It leads anticlockwise twice around the lake, overcoming a distance of 21.097 km, with start and finish near the restaurant Gretl am See in the locality of San Giuseppe al Lago. However, if this seems too demanding for you, you can choose the Panorama Run, which circles the lake only once (10.55 km).
The stunning spring landscape here in the south of South Tyrol welcomes you already in March with temperatures which can reach up to a mild 15 degrees C. Thousands of athletes meet in Caldaro for this running event, organised by the South Tyrolean Running Club. The Lake Caldaro Half Marathon and its side events - the Panorama Run and the Fun Run - take place in the morning, whereas in the afternoon there’s the award ceremony with entertainment programme.
By the way: the Lake Caldaro Half Marathon (Kalterer See Halbmarathon, in German) represents the 2nd stage of the Top7 Series, a running series in South Tyrol. It starts already on the 31st of December with the traditional BOclassic New Year’s Eve Run in Bolzano. The Lake Caldaro Half Marathon in March is then followed by the Merano-Lagundo Half Marathon in May, the Lake Resia Run in July, the Three-Quarter Half Marathon from Brunico to Campo Tures in August, the Soltn Mountain Half Marathon on the Salto High Plateau in September and the Agefactor-Run, a 10 km long street run in the south of South Tyrol, in October.
