Once upon a time also cattle was sold and purchased on the farmers' markets. Nowadays, however, the offer is limited to the delicacies which grow or are produced at the farms. Fresh fruit and vegetables, eggs from local hens, herbs, honey in different flavours, wine, juices, bacon, different spreads and cheese are offered according to the season.
Around Lake Caldaro, the farmers' market takes place every Tuesday - between March and the beginning of November - at the Piazza Principale (main square) in Caldaro (from 7.30 am to 12.30 noon time). An additional farmers' market at the main square is held also during the Long Shopping Afternoons in spring and autumn, in this case all day long (from 9 am to 4 pm).
Farmers' markets in the surroundings:
- Bolzano (daily, Piazza delle Erbe square)
- San Michele/Appiano (Tuesdays)
- Egna (Fridays)
