Due to its beneficial position, lake Caldaro offers advantageous conditions for windsurfers: already in March in high pressure weather situations the popular "Ora" blows at lake Caldaro. However, it takes some time until the "Ora" reaches the lake. Usually the breeze comes around 1 pm. The full speed of 4 to 6 beaufort is reached a little later in the afternoon.
The best time for surfing is spring, when there are some very good "Ora" days. Less frequent is a north wind, which can reach up to 7 beaufort. In summer months this this wind decreases and in autumn surfers and the lake have to deal with dead calms :-).
The main meeting point for surfers is the Lido at the restaurant "Gretl am See", where the starting conditions are perfect. This is also where the only surf school is located and where there is the only surf shop in the surroundings. This shop offers all a surfers' heart desires, including sandals, sports gears and much more.
The surf school as well as the restaurant and swimming pool are led by Klaus Maran, former world champion in wind gliding.
