Lake and wind

Thanks to the mild climate and the “Ora” in the afternoons, lake Caldaro offers perfect conditions for windsurfing.

Already in March, with stable high pressure conditions, the popular “Ora” coming from lake Garda breezes at the lake. As it takes the souther some time to come to Caldaro, this wind usually breezes from around 2 pm, while it achieves full speed of 4 to 6 Beaufort later on.

The best wind conditions prevail in spring and with good weather the lake achieves an average temperature of 13 degrees already in April, thanks to its remote depth. In May the water thermometer climbs up to an average temperature of 19 degrees, in high summer even up to 28 degrees. Also air temperature in the area of the lake is some 10 degrees higher than in the surroundings.

Seldom there is also a northern wind, which can be rather severe, achieving a speed of up to 7 Beaufort. In summer months the wind slightly decreased. In summer the weather is rather muggy and there is hardly any wind. Also in autumn long calm periods bother the lake and above all windsurfers.
