Hike from Mt. Mendola to Mt. Roen

At the summit of the Passo Mendola mountain pass, the province and language border between South Tyrol and Trentino proceeds

The Passo della Mendola mountain pass is an ideal starting point for hikes into the woods or on the neighbouring summits such as Mt. Roen and Mt. Penegal. The easiest and fastest way to the Passo Mendola is by the Mendola Funicular which starts in the district of Sant'Antonio. On a distance of 2,370 m, it overcomes in a ride of just a few minutes an altitude difference of 854 m. Arrived at the top, we start our hike to the top of Mt. Roen (2,116 m a.s.l.).

An impressive tour to the highest point of the Mendola Ridge awaits us. At the mountain station of the funicular we follow the path no. 500 towards south. Past the Rif. Genzianella mountain hut at 1,399 m a.s.l. we reach soon the next rest point, the Rif. Mezzavia mountain hut (1,585 m a.s.l.) where we take a rest.

Then we carry on walking along path no. 500 until the Malga di Romeno mountain hut with its little chapel. Now we have almost reached our destination and finally can enjoy a gorgeous view on the entire Oltradige area and the surrounding alpine world. For our way back we take the same route to the mountain station of the Mendola Funicular. Surefootedness required!
