Located at the lakeside of Lake Caldaro and surrounded by typical South Tyrolean vineyards in the south of the province, there is the municipality of Caldaro. This area is characterised by a large number of castles, ruins and residences that are popular excursion destinations. The Mendola funicular, considered the steepest and longest funicular railway of Europe, takes you to the Passo della Mendola, which is an ideal starting point for hikes, making you experience nature at close range. -

The small locality of Sant’Antonio is also located at the foot of the Mendola mountain at an altitude of 500 m asl.
In Sant’Antonio, there is the valley station of the famous Mendola funicular railway. If you pass your holidays in this area, you don’t have to miss the opportunity to make a ride with the steepest funicular railway throughout Europe, featuring a gradient of 64%. Within a ten minutes’ ride you reach the 1,363 m high Mendola mountain peak. For all those who would like to avoid driving along the large number of serpenties, this is a welcome opportunity.
