South Tyrolean Vine Museum

The Lieselehof Winery, located on a small hill in Caldaro, presents more than 350 different varieties of vines from all over the world

The South Tyrolean Vine Museum in Caldaro (Kaltern), basically the perfect complement to the South Tyrolean Wine Museum, one of the Provincial Museums of South Tyrol, is a private facility. Werner Morandell, author and winegrower, established on the expansive grounds of his Lieselehof Winery a Vine Theme Path, the fulfilment of a long-held dream. The winery owes its name to the great-grandmother of Werner Morandell, Elisabeth Morandell, called "Liesele". Vines have been cultivated in this beautiful spot of land for many generations.

In the vineyard you can distinguish more than 350 different varieties of grapes coming from Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Greece, the US, Russia, South Africa and Japan. The information panels tell you in detail about the vines, their country of origin and the possible crossing partners. But the museum has another peculiarity: organic-ecological viticulture has been practised here since 1993. The organic winegrower relies on a variety of plants that loosens the soil between the vines.

After the guided tour you can taste the excellent and partly award-winning wines of the Lieselehof. And how to reach the South Tyrolean Vine Museum - "Südtiroler Rebenmuseum" in German, "Museo delle Viti dell'Alto Adige" in Italian? It is located on a small hill in Sant'Antonio, a district of Caldaro, more precisely in the Via Kardatsch road no. 6. Parking possibilities are available.
