Water temperature

The warmest bathing lake of the Alps reaches more than 28 degrees C in summer - a real pleasure for all those who love water sports

Due to the fact that Lake Caldaro reaches an average water depth of only 4 metres, already in spring it features a comfortably warm temperature of about 17 to 19 degrees C. The mild climate in this place, at the meeting point of Mediterranean and alpine influences, becomes apparent also in the Spring Valley, which is already covered by a sea of flowers in February.

In high summer, the water temperature might even rise to more than 28 degrees C, making Lake Caldaro the warmest - and really popular - bathing lake of the Alps. A similar water temperature is only reached by Lake Klopeiner in Carinthia, the southern-most region of Austria. Also the air temperature here is about 10 degrees C higher than in the neighbouring mountain areas.

These conditions are also favourable for those who love windsurfing and sailing, as in the warm months the “Ora”, a southern breeze from Lake Garda, blows through the Valle dell’Adige valley. In winter, however, falling temperatures can cause a layer of ice covering Lake Caldaro.
